Placer County Jail Roster Overview
The Placer County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Wayne Woo, runs the county jail roster. The main office sits at 2929 Richardson Drive in Auburn. Call 530-889-7800 for the front desk. The Sheriff oversees two adult jails. Court security, coroner work, and marshal duties also fall under this office. The county uses a PDF roster, not a web form. That roster is the In-Custody Report. It lists each inmate booked into either jail at the time the file is built.
The Sheriff's home page links straight to the report. The county's View page hosts the file too. The same page links to a Daily Booking and Release Report and the 10 Day Arrest Log. Each file updates daily. The roster shows bail and booking info for current inmates only.
The Placer County jail roster does not cover every type of custody. It will not show federal inmates, state prison inmates, or people held by ICE. It also leaves out juveniles. For state prison custody, use the CDCR CIRIS tool. For federal cases, use the BOP Inmate Locator. Use VINELink for release alerts. The state's Megan's Law site covers sex offender registry data.
The Sheriff's main page sets the tone for jail data access in the county.
That home page is the safest start point for any Placer County inmate search. From there, one click reaches the roster, the arrest log, or the jail info pages.
How to Use the Placer County Inmate Roster
The roster is a PDF, so it works a bit like a court file. Open it, scan it, then read the entry for the person you want. The list is sorted by last name. A browser find box helps a lot. Use Ctrl-F on a PC or Cmd-F on a Mac. Type the last name, then press Enter. The page jumps to each match. The same trick works on phones in most PDF apps.
- Open the In-Custody Report PDF from the Sheriff's site.
- Press Ctrl-F or Cmd-F to start a search inside the file.
- Type the last name. Use the first few letters if you are not sure of the spelling.
- Step through each match. Check the first name, the date of birth, and the charges.
- Note the booking number, bail amount, and housing unit for the right entry.
- For arrests in the last ten days, open the 10 Day Arrest Log and repeat the search.
If a name does not show up, the person may not be in Placer custody. Call Auburn Jail at 530-745-8500 or South Placer Jail at 916-409-8100 to confirm. Staff can verify in-custody status by phone.
Roster Search Fields
The county does not offer a true form-based portal. The roster is a static PDF. The fields below describe how a name search works inside the file. Treat each one as a filter you apply by eye or with the find tool in your browser.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text (find) | Yes | Roster is sorted by last name. Use Ctrl-F or Cmd-F. |
| First Name | Text (find) | No | Helps when many people share a last name. |
| Booking Number | Text (find) | No | Best for bail agents who already have the file number. |
| Date of Birth | Date (visual) | No | Confirms the right person when names match. |
| Charge / Code | Text (find) | No | Search by Penal Code section, like 978.5 for a bench warrant. |
| Facility | Text (visual) | No | Roster groups by Auburn or South Placer. |
The 10 Day Arrest Log accepts the same approach. It does not show bail or mugshots. It does show the arrest date, time, and location.
What an Inmate Profile Shows
Each row on the roster is a short profile. The Sheriff says the file holds bail and other booking info for each person held. The same data drives visiting times and bail talks with the bail agent. The 10 Day Arrest Log offers a fuller view of the arrest event but skips court and bond data.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Full Name | The booked person's legal name. Aliases may appear in the arrest log. |
| Date of Birth | Used to tell people apart when names match. Shown on both reports. |
| Booking Number | Jail ID number tied to the file. Bail agents need this. |
| Booking Date | Date the person was booked into the jail. |
| Arrest Date and Time | From the 10 Day Arrest Log. Marks the start of the case. |
| Arrest Location | Where the arrest took place. Helps tie the file to a city or road. |
| Charges | Code section and a short label, such as Penal Code 978.5 bench warrant. |
| Bail Amount | Set bail on the In-Custody Report. Posts at the jail or by bail bond. |
| Facility | Auburn Jail or South Placer Jail. |
| Housing Unit | Where the inmate is held. Drives visit time and contact rules. |
| Physical Description | Sex, height, weight, hair color, eye color from the arrest log. |
| Occupation | Self-reported job from the arrest log entry. |
No mugshot shows on either PDF. The arrest log does not list bond or court date fields. Court dates come from the trial court file, not the jail file.
Placer County Jail Facilities
The county runs two main jails plus a visit center in Roseville. The Our Jails page lists each site, with hours, rules, and contact info. The Auburn Jail opened in July 1985 at a cost of $4.5 million. The Board of Corrections rated the first build for 108 beds. A 260-bed add-on opened in April 1992 with three medium dorms and one max module. The South Placer Jail in Roseville has a planned rated capacity of 980 when fully open.
The Sheriff's jail info page is the right stop for visit times and bail rules.
That same page lists the Auburn site, the South Placer site, and the Minimum Security visit center. Each one has its own phone line for inmate questions.

Booking Process in Placer County
Booking is the first step inside the jail. Deputies bring the person in from the arrest site. Staff check the warrant, take prints, and run an ID check. They also take a photo, log property, and screen for medical needs. The booking number goes on the file at that point. The In-Custody Report adds the new entry on its next update.
The 10 Day Arrest Log shows the arrest side of the same event. It lists the case number, the arrest date and time, and the charge code. Bench warrants under Penal Code 978.5 are common, both for missed court on a misdemeanor and on a felony. Outside agency warrants also show up in the log.
First appearance comes after booking. The court sets bail at that point, or holds the case for review. People with set bail can post at the jail at any hour. For warrants from another court, the bail must be made out to that court. Cashier's checks, certified checks, and money orders must be payable to the Placer Trial Court, or the clerk of the court that issued the warrant. Bail bonds must be filed by a licensed bail agent. The agent will need bail amount, charges, court case number, court date and department, and the jail ID number.
Visitation Hours and Rules
South Placer has suspended all contact visits for safety. Most visits run by video. Auburn allows case-by-case professional contact visits when the inmate agrees. Attorneys may use the video visit tool too. All visits must be set up through the video visit vendor at least 24 hours in advance. Personal visits start with a check-in at least 30 minutes before the slot. Auburn asks for a 35 to 45 minute window.
| Day | Hours | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
| Tuesday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
| Wednesday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
| Thursday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
| Friday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
| Saturday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
| Sunday | By inmate dayroom slot (24 hour notice) | Video / non-contact |
Times shift with each inmate's dayroom slot. Check the In-Custody Report or call the jail for the right window. Call Auburn at 530-745-8500 or South Placer at 916-409-8100. Visit signup runs through IC Solutions at thevisitor.icsenforcer.com.
The jail caps the number of visitors per session. The cap holds at Auburn, South Placer, the Minimum Security site, and remote video visits.
| Facility / Visit Type | Visitor Limit |
|---|---|
| Auburn Jail | Two adults and one minor, or one adult and two minors. Max three visitors per inmate per visit. |
| South Placer Jail | Two adults and one minor, or one adult and two minors. Max three visitors per inmate per visit. |
| Minimum Security | Two adults and one minor, or one adult and two minors. Max three visitors per inmate per visit. |
| Remote Video | Two adults and one minor, or one adult and two minors. Max three visitors per inmate per visit. |
Visitors must show valid photo ID. The jail will accept a driver's license, a military ID, a passport, an immigration card, or a state photo ID. Expired IDs may pass if they are not more than two years old and the photo still looks like the holder. No cell phones, tablets, or smart watches go past the lobby. All visitors walk through a metal detector. People in Placer custody within the past 120 days cannot visit in person. That rule does not apply to remote video. Minors must come with a responsible adult. A felony record with state prison time blocks visits unless the jail commander signs off in writing. Penal Code 4571 covers that rule.
How to Contact a Placer County Inmate
Mail rules change on March 24, 2026. After that date, all personal mail goes to the Smart Communications / MailGuard center, not the jail. The new address is: [Inmate Name and ID], Placer Co. South Placer Jail or Auburn Jail, c/o Mail Processing Center, PO Box 9229, Seminole, FL 33775-9229. Mail sent to the jail address after April 7, 2026, will be returned to the sender. Each letter must show the inmate's full name and booking number.
Inmates view scanned mail on kiosks or tablets. Friends and family can use MailGuardTracker to track each letter through the system. Legal mail still goes to the jail. Send it to South Placer Jail at 11801 Go For Broke Road, Roseville, CA 95678, or Auburn Jail at 2775 Richardson Drive, Auburn, CA 95603. Mark the envelope as legal mail from a lawyer of record.
Books and magazines must come from approved vendors only. Corrections Bookstores and Barnes & Noble are named on the jail rules page. Books must be new soft covers. Bank cards, cash, credit cards, phone cards, ID cards, and personal checks are not allowed in the mail. Polaroids, news cutouts, and printed puzzles or games are barred too. No envelope larger than 10 by 13 inches will pass.
Phone calls run through a vendor account. Inmates start calls from the housing unit. Family can fund the line for the calls to go through. Video visits also run on this same kind of account. Set up an account before your first visit so the slot books on time.
Commissary and Inmate Funds
Money sent to an inmate is for commissary use only. Send money orders or cashier's checks, up to $175 each, made out to the inmate with the jail ID number. Mail them in or drop them in the jail lobby box. The purchaser's name and address must be filled in. Personal checks are not accepted at any jail. Deposits must arrive by midnight on Mondays for that week's delivery to the housing unit.
Online deposits and care packs go through My Care Pack. Phone deposits run through Smart Deposit / Access Corrections at 866-394-0490. The jail lobby kiosks take cash, credit cards, and permanent bank ATM or debit cards. Each option moves funds straight to the inmate's commissary trust account. Limits and fees apply per the vendor.
Commissary covers snacks, hygiene items, writing paper, and phone time. It does not cover bail or court fines. Bail still must be posted at the jail or through a licensed bail agent. Court fines go to the trial court clerk's office.
State, Federal, and Outside Locators
Not every search ends at the county jail. If a person is sent to state prison, the local roster will not show them. The state runs its own tool. The California Incarcerated Records and Information Search covers people in CDCR custody. CIRIS takes a name or CDCR number and returns location, admission date, and parole status when public.
The CIRIS home page is the right state-level start.
That page is the official state stop for a Placer County inmate sent to prison after sentencing. Federal cases run through the BOP Inmate Locator. It covers federal inmates from 1982 to now. Use the BOP Register Number or a name with a sex and race filter.
For release alerts, use VINELink. The free tool sends phone or email notice when an inmate is moved or released. Set it up with the booking number from the In-Custody Report. The state's Megan's Law site covers sex offender registry data after release. Each tool has its own rules of use. Read the disclaimer on each site before any search.
